Course Aim

Our Kickstart into Commercial Fishing course is a grant funded course that provides 10 day of shore based training. This course will provide all of  the mandatory courses and basic skills needed to begin a career in commercial fishing.

Course Content

This course is a collection of the units listed below. 

  • Ropes, knots and fishing gear
  • Introduction to watch keeping and navigation
  • Basic engineering
  • Care of the catch
  • Mandatory basic courses
  • Basic Sea survival
  • Basic Health and Safety
  • Basic First Aid
  • Basic Firefighting

Course Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 15 years of age or in the last year of school
