Health and Safety for Fishermen
All New Entrants working aboard any UK commercial fishing vessel of any size are required to have completed an approved Basic Health and Safety Course for Fishermen.
The Seafish Basic Health and Safety course aims to provide new entrants to the commercial fishing industry with the knowledge and skills required to work safely onboard a commercial fishing vessel.
Course Certification and Compliance
The Seafish Industry Authority on behalf of the MCA will issue a course certificate to those who complete the course successfully.
Course Aim
To provide new entrants to the industry with the knowledge and skills they require to work safely on fishing vessels.
The course covers:
- Knowing your vessel
- Understanding roles and responsibilities
- Maintaining operations
- Working safely on a fishing vessel
- Dealing with emergencies
Examination Type
Candidates must complete a short, multiple choice exam.
Who Needs This Course?
MCA regulations, all new entrants must complete this course within their first 3 months of working at sea. Without this Seafish-approved certificate, you cannot legally work on a UK commercial fishing vessel
