GMDSS General Operators Certificate (GOC)
Course Overview
The GMDSS GOC (General Operators Certificate) is the highest level of Marine radio operator’s qualification. The GOC certificate meets all STCW code requirements and is required for an MCA Certificates of Competency for officers and Masters onboard fishing and merchant vessels..
GMDSS GOC allows the operator to operate radio equipment onboard any vessel operating in any sea area. The course covers additional responsibilities for equipment testing and emergency situations.

Course Content
This course is taught using live equipment/ and communication equipment.
- MF/HF/VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC)
- MF/HF Radiotelephony
- VHF Radio
- Navtex Receiver
- Inmarsat C Telex
- Inmarsat C EGC
- Fleet Safety Voice Communications
- Portable survival equipment – EPIRB, SART, AIS-SART, Handheld VHF
- SOLAS Distress, Urgency & Safety communications
- GMDSS Logkeeping
- GMDSS Checks and Tests including Battery Maintenance
- Radio regulations, systems and good practice
Examination Type
The GOC examination consists of three sections
- GMDSS general knowledge – a written and multiple choice exam (30 minutes)
- R/T Communication Exercise SOLAS procedures – (approx 30 minutes)

This course also requires:
- Passport size photo with candidate’s name on the back
Certificates will be sent directly to candidates on completion of the exam.
