RYA Yachtmaster Shore Based Course
Our face-to-face tutored RYA course is intended for anyone wishing to safely skipper a sailing or powered craft commercially or for leisure. This is an advanced navigation course and you will need knowledge of navigation theory to Day Skipper level, or experience of navigating and managing your own vessel.
You should expect to spend around 40 hours covering theory of navigation, meteorology, practical techniques for navigation, pilotage and planning for safe passages. Including fixing position, magnetic compass, tides, buoyage, lights, and pilotage.
You will receive a training pack and be led throughout by experienced tutors at our comfortable classroom in Cornwall.
This course includes all the theory to progress to the practical examination for the RYA Coastal Skipper or RYA Yachtmaster Coastal/Offshore Certificates of Competency.
Course Aim
To gain knowledge and skills to use advanced navigation techniques, sailors meteorology and regulations to plan a safe passage day or night in any port in the world. If you are planning for a commercial endorsement of Yachtmaster this will equip you with the knowledge required.
If you are planning to work commercially with Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster Certificates of Competency then this course will contribute to your progress to the practical examinations. Speak to SCT about local practical examinations.
Examination Type
